This experimental and visually stimulating structure is striking because of both its shape and the use of materials. The red copper color is not only a nod to the history of the Fraeylemaborg, but gives the folly an eccentric appearance. In the summer the folly will shine in the sunlight, partly filtered by the greenery on the trees. In the fall when the leaves fall, the folly will be seen to its full extent and harmonize with the surrounding color nuances of autumn. This project was made with a computer-controlled 3D foam cutter.

Exhibition René van Zuuk Architects in Haarlem

Technology as Inspiration: overview in models of René van Zuuk Architects Exhibition: September 22 to November 3 Location: ABC Architectuurcentrum Haarlem, Groot Heiligland 47 Haarlem

From September 22 to November 10, a special exhibition will be set up in the ABC with work by René van Zuuk Architekten under the title "Technology as Inspiration". Architectural models, made from various materials, of projects that this agency has realized and / or designed over the past two decades can be seen on 18 pedestals. This exhibition was previously shown at Casla in Almere and at the Zaanse Architectuurcentrum Babel.

The design process at René van Zuuk Architekten, which is based in Almere, always starts with an urban model. During this phase the first concept and the idea for the building system to be used is formed. The knowledge of technical possibilities and impossibilities plays an important role in that process. Characteristic of the work is the shape of the buildings, where no floor or roof line is the same, while the functionality of the design is at its peak. The agency has not yet realized any projects in Haarlem or the Kennemerland region, but is widely known for its projects such as Ajax's sports complex De Toekomst, the ARCAM Architecture Center (both Amsterdam) and the undulating 'Blok 16' in Almere.

Anniversary exhibition René van Zuuk at cASLa

René van Zuuk has realized stylish designs for 20 years. An anniversary exhibition of architecture models will be held at cASLa from August 24 to November 17, 2012.

At the age of twenty-seven, architect René van Zuuk won the competition for the Fantasie in Almere with his design Psyche. This project used to be a home and now offers space for the office of the firm. He later designed Project X at De Fantasie as a home. These high-profile buildings have been realized for living and working at this special location on the Weerwater. On the other bank of the Weerwater is The Wave, a special apartment complex, an icon that helps shape the skyline of Almere.

The afirm celebrates its 20th anniversary in 2012, a reason good enough to hold an anniversary exhibition at cASLa, on the Weerwater. The exhibition is opened by Mariet Schoenmakers, Director Concepts AMwonen and former member of the Quality Team, Stadshart Almere. The opening is on Friday 24 August at 4 p.m. The exhibition can be seen until Saturday, November 17.

The exhibition shows the urban and architectural models of projects that René van Zuuk has designed and created over the past two decades on 18 pedestals. The agency has been working on very diverse assignments since 1992. The design must be functional, sustainable and appropriate to its environment. The agency has designed museums, housing, utility construction and infrastructure.

Those who want to see works by Van Zuuk can go to The Wave apartment complex, but also the bridge that connects the City District with Almere Centrum. Zilverparkkade is also a striking design in Lelystad. Zeewolde has the ''De Verbeelding'', a special pavilion.

René van Zuuk's work is appropriate and uniquely related to the environment in which it was conceived. No floor or roof line is the same, while the functionality of the design is maximum. The often exceptional façade coverings are inspired by the work of the artist M.C. Escher.

In addition to the model, light boxes can also be seen in cASLa's exhibition space, which contain the themes that René van Zuuk uses, such as the context of the design, the spatial play, the patterns and the detailing that are characteristic of Van Zuuk. It is special that we have an architect in Almere who has made such beautiful designs in the city but also outside of it. Quality goes hand in hand with the functionality. The museum, the house or the building fits in with the environment in a unique way and challenges you to be discovered.

The jubilee book, René van Zuuk Architecture, 1992 - 2012, will accompany the exhibition.

BabelExpo 20 years of René van Zuuk Architects in Zaanstad

The work of the Almere architect René van Zuuk is appropriate and uniquely related to the environment in which it was conceived. Stylish designs, where no floor or roof line is the same, while the functionality of the design is maximum. The often exceptional façade coverings are inspired by the work of the artist M.C. Esscher. The agency has been working on very diverse assignments since 1992.

Van Zuuk's design process always starts with an urban model. During this phase the first concept and the idea for the building system to be used is formed. Sustainability is not a goal in itself, but is integrated in this design process. The final structure must therefore also be special, so that people think it is worth preserving the building. The agency has a very varied portfolio, including ARCAM Architecture Center in Amsterdam, Block 16 apartment complex in Almere and Ajax's Youth Complex 'De Toekomst' in Amsterdam.

The urban and architectural models in Zaandam can be seen on 18 pedestals of projects that René van Zuuk has designed and created over the past two decades. The exhibition is opened - in the presence of René - by Mayor Geke Faber. The opening is Thursday 4 April at 4.30 pm in the atrium of the Saen Tower in Zaandam, where the exhibition can be seen until Friday 3 May.
